So, the district attorney, in the cases of a drunk driving incident, the district attorney represents the people as a collective. As a society, we have come together and said, you know, we’re going to allow these things. We’re not going to allow these things. These things are crimes. The district attorney represents us as a collective. He doesn’t represent you personally. So, yes. You do need a lawyer in the civil context, to recover any damages. You know, your car was damaged, you were injured, and stuff like that. The district attorney is not going to represent your interests. He’s going to, like I said represent, society as a whole. And so, yes, you would need a civil lawyer to protect your civil rights. If you were hit by somebody that you believe was drunk, but they were not arrested for whatever reason. Depending on the mechanics of the accident. If they hit you from behind. If they ran a red light. If they ran a stop sign. Yes, you would still would have a case. That they would be liable to pay you.
